Module 10A: Makeup and Hair Design A (Core)
Outcome
Apply fundamentals of makeup and hair design in theatre productions.
Indicators
(a)

Examine functions of makeup and hair in productions such as:

  • creating and communicating information (e.g., personality, socioeconomic background, era, setting, style, situation of role) about the characters;
  • supporting visibility of actor; and,
  • enhancing, altering or maintaining the appearance of an actor.
(b) Discuss the importance of sanitation and hygiene as they relate to hair and makeup in theatre.
(c) Develop a list of guidelines for safely selecting, applying, removing and storing makeup and hair products.
(d) Create an inspirational image bank of designs that demonstrate selected functions of hair and makeup in theatre.
(e) Research and identify tools and materials used in hair and makeup design and production.
(f) Experiment with basic stage makeup for selected functions.
(g) Demonstrate correct hygiene, sanitation and principles of safety while working with stage hair and makeup tools and products.
(h) Design and create hair and makeup to support a specific character in collaboration with the costume designer.
(i) Recognize the importance of clear communication during theatre production meetings.
