Module 12B: Sound Design B (Optional)
Outcome
Create a sound design for a real or imagined theatre production.
Indicators
(a) Examine a variety of analog and digital sound equipment (e.g., microphones, sound boards, equalizers, speakers, headsets) and programs (e.g., digital audio workstation - DAW, QLab) and prepare equipment for use.
(b) Review safety precautions and apply safety practices related to sound design.
(c) Demonstrate use of sound equipment and the manipulation of sound quality.
(d)

Experiment with the use of sound for functions such as:

  • helping to establish time or location;
  • transitioning between scenes;
  • creating or changing the mood;
  • increasing suspense; and,
  • enhancing qualifies of various characters.
(e) Identify the different requirements (e.g., variety of microphones and how they are used) for a musical versus non-musical production.
(f)

Examine and discuss sound design documents such as:

  • sound plot;
  • sound cue sheet; and,
  • patch sheet.
(g) Determine sound requirements, create a design and use notation to organize cues for a real or imagined production.
(h) Demonstrate ability to problem solve in a real or imagined situation.
(i) Reflect on challenges experienced and personal accomplishments in sound design.
