Outcome
Assume the role and
responsibilities of
stage manager.
Indicators
(a) | Collaborate with production manager to develop production team budgets and rehearsal schedule. |
(b) | Examine the process and criteria for expanding a stage manager’s role to include an assistant stage manager and/or backstage manager. |
(c) | Review and confirm production roles. |
(d) | Create rehearsal and performance schedules in collaboration with director. |
(e) | Call and monitor attendance of actors and crew during rehearsals and performances. |
(f) | Source and maintain furniture and properties. |
(g) | Create and maintain a master properties list and plan. |
(h) | Develop a plan for the return of properties. |
(i) | Ensure effective communication among production team members and cast members. |
(j) | Record lighting and sound cues in production book before technical rehearsal. |
(k) | Oversee safety aspects of a production. |
(l) | Discuss expectations and requirements (e.g., off-stage monitors for cast, intercom headsets for stage manager and technicians, body microphones) for facilitating backstage communications. |
(m) | Manage the production callboard, including sign-in sheets and announcements. |
(n) | Collaborate with the sound team to set up a video monitor so that off-stage cast can see and hear what is happening on stage. |
(o) | Manage the backstage and onstage areas during performances. |
(p) | Create prompt script including actors’ cues and requirements for properties, lighting and sound. |
(q) | Call all cues including light, sound and deck cues. |
(r) | Coordinate set-up and strike of a production and arrange transportation (e.g., of properties or set pieces) as required. |
