Module 24A: Career Opportunities in Theatre Arts (Core)
Outcome
Investigate theatre arts career opportunities in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a)

Identify and research a variety of technical theatre arts occupations using criteria such as:

  • different departments (e.g., scenic, costume, Front of House, lighting, sound) involved in productions;
  • educational requirements for various roles (e.g., designers, technicians, stage managers);
  • working conditions, typical hours, locations, permanent versus seasonal or project work;
  • duties and skills required;
  • physical, mental and emotional stresses;
  • other occupations with which they interact;
  • professional and/or licensing requirements; and,
  • anticipated remuneration (e.g., for full- or part-time theatre employees, self-employed, independent projects, collective artist- run organizations).
(b) Examine career opportunities (e.g., costume, lighting, sound, makeup and hair, properties, scenic design) in Saskatchewan theatres and in non- theatre contexts (e.g., event planning, corporate presentations, weddings, awards ceremonies, fashion shows).
(c) Examine entrepreneurial opportunities in technical theatre within the community.
(d) Reflect on personal interests and analyze potential suitability or non- suitability for various theatre arts occupations.
(e) Research Saskatchewan post-secondary programs and organizations that provide supports (e.g., grants, professional development, networking opportunities) for theatre professionals within the arts and cultural sector.
