Indicators
(a) | Discuss how theatre locations, local community support and economic conditions may affect job prospects and sustainability in theatre and the arts sector in Canada. |
(b) | Assess the current state of theatre arts occupations in Canada and compare to international theatres and other performance contexts. |
(c) | Investigate the role and impact of various unions involved in theatrical productions (e.g., International Association of Technical Stage Employees – IATSE). |
(d) | Research Canadian and international theatre arts professionals to identify their training, work and career paths. |
(e) | Examine paid employment and volunteer opportunities in a variety of roles (e.g., theatre boards, arts councils, volunteering for arts organizations and theatre companies). |
(f) | Reflect upon personal suitability or non-suitability for specific occupations in theatre arts. |
(g) | Design a potential career path that includes post-secondary education programs for a chosen technical theatre occupation. |
(h) | Identify Canadian and international post-secondary technical theatre programs and review entrance requirements. |
(i) | Identify Canadian organizations (e.g., Canada Council for the Arts, Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils) that provide supports (e.g., grants, professional development, networking opportunities) for theatre professionals within the arts and cultural sector. |
(j) | Investigate entrance requirements and scholarship opportunities for application to post-secondary theatre programs. |
