Module 6A: Psychological Health and Safety - Employer and Employee (Core)
Outcome
Investigate employer and employee psychological health and safety in the workplace.
Indicators
(a) Explore accommodations (e.g., flexible hours, job sharing and modifications to the work environment and duties) that can be requested by employees of businesses in an agriculture setting (e.g., farming operations, chemical companies and grain elevators) to support mental health during peak operating efficiency.
(b) Discuss barriers (e.g., lack of awareness of accommodations, lack of confidence in requesting help, where to find supports, social stigma, fear of reprisal and fear of rejection) that employees face in disclosing a mental health problem or illness and/or requesting accommodations.
(c) Describe and suggest possible solutions for unavoidable stresses during peak operating times (e.g., harvest time, calving season and weather events) that employers face in providing accommodation requests.
(d) Discuss practical ways that employees can contribute to a psychologically healthy and safe workplace.
(e) Research employers' duties and responsibilities to support workplace mental health as outlined in The Saskatchewan Employment Act.
(f) Examine employers' duty to accommodate employee requests as outlined in the Canadian Human Rights Code.
