Outcome
Demonstrate effective communication skills.
Indicators
(a) Discuss the importance of effective communication skills (e.g., speaking, writing, listening and reading) for those employed in agriculture.
(b) Identify the characteristics of effective verbal and written communication (e.g., specific language choice, simple instructions and concise answers).
(c) Describe types of communication (e.g., reading and interpreting animal health products and manuals, discussing farm equipment needs with suppliers, rates of weight gain and seed and crop protection guides) required in agriculture production.
(d) Explain why communication is a critical component of safety procedures.
(e) Describe the role that negotiation plays in effective business communication.
(f) Research negotiation strategies to acquire better business deals within the agriculture industry.
(g) Identify communication tools (e.g., video conferencing, broadcast media and social media), the skills required to effectively use them and when they might be used in agriculture production.
(h) Discuss the importance of communication between producers, industry (e.g., equipment manufacturers), consumers and the public about production practices.
(i) Describe the protocols to be followed to share information with First Nations individuals and communities.
(j) Identify resources (e.g., Agriculture in the Classroom and Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan) specific to agriculture topics.
