Explore the regulations governing handling and treatment of livestock.
Indicators
(a) Describe acceptable and unacceptable aspects of livestock management, such as principles of punishment and reward and physical and psychological abuse.
(b) Explore the laws governing improper treatment of animals.
(c) Research regulations governing enclosure size for specific types of livestock.
(d) Examine moral issues of the use of tools that cause pain (e.g., electric cattle prods, whips and electric fences) in livestock handling.
(e) Discuss the role of the Animal Protection Service of Saskatchewan (APSS).
(f) Explore codes of practice (e.g., Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle by National Farm Animal Care Council [NFACC]) in the handling of specific livestock.
(g) Research the use of Saskatchewan Premises Identification (PID).
