Indicators
(a) Analyze the protocol (e.g., animal is to be relocated, euthanized or marketed) for conditions or diseases for which treatment is unsuccessful using regular efforts.
(b) Explore common untreatable diseases (e.g., rabies, bovine spongiform encephalopathy [BSE] and avian influenza) that may result in euthanizing an animal.
(c) Discuss how to protect humans and herds from transmissible diseases.
(d) Evaluate situations (e.g., broken leg, end of life cycle and suffering) in which euthanasia may be necessary.
(e) Examine acceptable and unacceptable methods of euthanizing animals.
(f) Explore situations (e.g., infectious disease) in which a veterinarian may be required to perform euthanasia.
(g) Describe acceptable methods of carcass disposal.
