Outcome
Collect and organize livestock data.
Indicators
(a)

Determine possible data to record for a specific livestock operation in the following categories:

  • breed progeny;
  • reproduction (e.g., female productivity and male fertility, breeding dates, birthing rates, birth weights and parent/offspring pairings);
  • raising livestock (e.g., farrowing records, weaning weight and rate of gain and age of livestock in different pens);
  • nutrition (e.g., kind of feed, feed rations and days on pasture);
  • animal management (e.g., sick or injured animals, medication records and daily checks);
  • financial management (e.g., inventory, markets, customers, prices, sales, shipments and purchases); and,
  • risk management (e.g., retention of cattle and types of insurance).
(b) Collect pertinent information into a list or table.
(c) Organize information into a graph or chart.
