(a) Describe how records can be used to communicate between people (e.g., employers and employees, co-workers, grain specialists, agrologists, suppliers and end consumers) involved in a farming operation.
(b)

Develop a record keeping plan for a crop rotation, which includes:

  • seasonal activities (e.g., seeding dates, spraying quantities and harvesting yield);
  • equipment maintenance;
  • crop management (e.g., crop varieties, yield, fertility levels, weather tracking, field inspections, crop rotation and disease and insect issues and their treatment);
  • financial management (e.g., inventory, storage, bin checks, prices, markets, sales, purchases and shipments); and,
  • risk management (e.g., crop insurance and claim history for each crop and field).
(c) Explore how collected data is analyzed to inform necessary changes to the production operation.
