Outcome
Explore the management of crops, pests and weeds in organic crop production.
Indicators
(a)

Explain the effectiveness of organic crop production practices, such as:

  • crop rotation;
  • biodiversity protection;
  • organic matter (e.g., compost and green manure) added to soil; and,
  • use of cover, green manure or under-sow crops used as companion plants, fertilizer or other symbiotic support.
(b) Analyze the importance of buffer zones in organic farming.
(c) Identify approved organic pest management substances (e.g., dormant oils, pheromone traps and soap).
(d) Explore organic weed management strategies (e.g., tillage, flame weeding, hand weeding, mulching and seeding date manipulation).
(e) Compare the advantages and disadvantages of natural and synthetic organic pesticides.
