Module 6: Ethical Practice (Core)
Outcome
Investigate principles related to ethical practice in caregiving environments.
Indicators
(a) Define ethical values and responsibilities.
(b) Differentiate between personal ethics and professional ethics.
(c) Examine a code of ethics for a profession or practice related to health care and/or early learning.
(d)

Identify situations with legal implications that could arise in health care and/or early learning environments, such as:

  • actions that are criminal or quasi criminal;
  • actions that breach a legal contract;
  • actions or information indicating there are reasonable grounds to believe that a child or a vulnerable adult is in need of protection;
  • actions that are discriminatory;
  • actions that constitute harassment; and,
  • actions that could constitute negligence.
(e) Outline the professional and legal consequences and penalties for violating professional standards and ethics in health care and/or early learning environments.
(f) Examine steps to take when professional standards and code of ethics have been violated.
