Outcome
Investigate careers in early learning and child care.
Indicators
(a) | Explore various types of professions with a focus on early learning and child care (e.g., early childhood educator, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teacher, educational assistants, program director, policy advisor). |
(b) | Recognize the characteristics of an effective early learning and child care caregiver (e.g., compassionate, patient, responsible, attentive). |
(c) | Examine the expanded roles and responsibilities of a certified early childhood educator (e.g., guide, researcher, observer, documenter). |
(d) | Explore various secondary and post-secondary pathways leading to employment involving infants and young children (e.g., dual credit options with high school and post-secondary institutions, collegial certification, university degrees). |
(e) | Examine opportunities for volunteering in early learning and child care environments (e.g., obtaining a credit through the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s Volunteerism Policy, 2023). |
(f) | Investigate official certification levels (i.e., levels 1, 2, 3) to become a certified early childhood educator in Saskatchewan. |
(g) | Investigate potential earnings of various types of early learning and child care positions in Saskatchewan. |
(h) | Examine inclusive hiring policies and practices in early learning and child care environments (e.g., representation of urban and rural workers, newcomers to Canada, men and gender diverse individuals). |
(i) | Investigate challenges related to working as an early learning and child care caregiver (e.g., fatigue, stress, mental health). |
