Outcome
Differentiate between types of early learning and child care environments.
Indicators
(a)

Identify the characteristics of early learning and child care environments in Saskatchewan including:

  • unregulated family child care homes;
  • regulated family child care homes;
  • preschool programs;
  • prekindergarten programs and kindergarten programs;
  • drop-in programs; and,
  • early learning child care centres.
(b) Investigate how family needs might differ in urban, suburban, rural and remote communities.
(c) Compare aspects of regulated family child care homes to those of unregulated family child care homes in Saskatchewan (e.g., subsidy options, parent fees, regulations, training, programs).
(d) Compare aspects of regulated early learning child care centres to those of regulated family child care homes and unregulated day homes in Saskatchewan (e.g., size, staffing requirements, parent fees, regulations, training, programs).
(e) Explore the cultural mandates (e.g., Indigenous child care theory and practices, promotion of language and culture, choice of materials, relationship with the community) in early learning child care centres.
