Outcome
Examine the roles and responsibilities of a childminder.
Indicators
(a) | List the responsibilities of a childminder. |
(b) | Discuss the use of personal devices (e.g., phones) when caring for children. |
(c) | Explain how to recognize signs of child abuse and neglect and discuss the childminder’s responsibility to report them. |
(d) | Discuss how to ensure personal safety and security when caring for children in their homes. |
(e) | Identify organizations offering First Aid and CPR courses and discuss the benefits of such courses. |
(f) | Explore family expectations of childminders when caring for their children (e.g., punctuality, meal preparation, homework, use of personal devices, giving baths). |
(g) | Identify different ways of communicating with parents and guardians (e.g., texting, phoning, emailing). |
(h) | Plan safe and engaging activities for different age groups (e.g., organizing and leading activities for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children). |
(i) | Discuss strategies for minding children with exceptionalities (e.g., addressing safety concerns, adaptations). |
(j) | Demonstrate how to talk about hourly pay and payment methods with parents and guardians. |
(k) | Research employment opportunities in the community and abroad as a nanny, au pair or early learning and child care caregiver. |
