Outcome
Examine how diseases and infections are managed in early learning and child care environments.
Indicators
(a) Describe positive environmental factors (e.g., good nutrition and dietary habits, daily physical activity, regular medical and dental care, clean and safe home environment) that influence good health in children.
(b) Investigate common communicable diseases (e.g., chicken pox, ringworm, pertussis) in early learning and child care environments.
(c) Explore immunizations available in Saskatchewan to protect children at various ages.
(d) Explore common special health concerns (e.g., allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma) present in early learning and child care environments.
(e) List steps for controlling the spread of airborne and foodborne illnesses (e.g., hand washing, cough etiquette, sanitizing and disinfecting).
(f) Explain how to care for children who become ill while in early learning and child care environments.
(g) Discuss how illness should be reported to parents and guardians.
