Outcome
Create a plan for a daily routine in an early learning and child care environment.
Indicators
(a) | Explain the importance of a daily schedule for children. |
(b) | Identify which parts of a daily schedule are fixed (e.g., gym time, home time) and which parts of the day may be extended or shortened (e.g., snack time, outdoor play, unstructured play). |
(c) | Research the benefits of unstructured play in a daily routine. |
(d) | Explain the benefits of having a flexible routine (e.g., transitioning to another activity at a natural point). |
(e) | Discuss how to keep transitions and interruptions to children’s activities to a minimum. |
(f) | Evaluate various types of transition tools such as visual cues, rhymes, music and gestures. |
(g) | Discuss ways to communicate routines with parents and caregivers. |
(h) | Identify challenging moments of a routine (e.g., dressing, undressing, meals, nap time) and strategies to address them. |
(i) | Investigate how professionals in early learning and childcare environments support families with potty training routines. |
(j) | Explore the sleeping routines of infants, toddlers and preschoolers in an early learning and child care environment. |
(k) | Create a visual schedule of the daily routine including transitions and time for unstructured play. |
