Module 27: Relationships With Children’s Families (Optional)
Outcome
Describe how early learning and child care caregivers can develop positive relationships with families and the community.
Indicators
(a) | Describe the benefits of strong collaborative partnerships between early learning and child care caregivers and childrens’ families. |
(b) | Identify barriers to positive relations between early learning and child care caregivers and childrens’ families. |
(c) | Discuss ways to include families in planning activities, supports and resources when appropriate. |
(d) | Describe strategies that can improve relationships and communications between caregivers and children’s families (e.g., communication apps, daily verbal reports). |
(e) | Discuss how parents, guardians and families are the experts on their child. |
(f) | Identify ways to recognize, respect and incorporate family strengths (e.g., highlighting what is strong rather that what is wrong, confirming things they know they are doing well) when interacting with families. |
(g) | Compare a variety of community resources for families with young children. |
(h) | Research facilities (e.g., libraries, family resource centres, community centres) and events (e.g., festivals, theatre, dance, music, sport) that build relationships in the community. |
