Explore observation, documentation and assessment processes in early learning and child care environments.
Indicators
(a) | Differentiate between observation, documentation and assessment. |

Investigate the steps of the assessment cycle used by early learning and child care caregivers, including:

(c) | Investigate developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive assessment practices, such as developing a relationship with the child, administering assessment tools in the child’s first language and allowing children to represent their ideas in a variety of ways. |
(d) | Differentiate between screening tools (e.g., observation templates, journals, data collection, notes) and assessment tools (e.g. early years assessments). |
(e) | Explore specialized assessments completed by professional specialists (e.g., speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, educational psychologist). |
(f) | Evaluate documentation tools (e.g., pictures, videos, products) used to record the four domains of development. |
(g) | Demonstrate appropriate ways (e.g., terminology) to discuss children’s learning and development amongst colleagues or with parents and guardians. |
