Outcome
Recognize patients’ rights in health care environments.
Indicators
(a) Explain the basic human rights protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (e.g., the right to vote, the right to life, liberty and security, the right to equality before and under the law).
(b) Describe patient rights in Saskatchewan health care environments (e.g., the right to privacy and confidentially, the right to give or withhold consent, the right to autonomy).
(c) Investigate patient family centered care and person-centered care principles in Saskatchewan (e.g., dignity and respect, information sharing, participation, collaboration).
(d) Identify ways supportive care providers demonstrate respect for their patients’ rights.
(e) Research laws and regulations that impact patient’s rights in health care environments.
(f) Explore ways for patients to receive health care services in their primary language to remove language barriers.
