Outcome
Investigate the work environment of acute care settings.
Indicators
(a) Investigate acute care.
(b) Research the challenges of working in acute care as a supportive care provider.
(c) Identify the supportive care provider’s responsibilities for physical examinations (e.g., collect linens, collect examination equipment, measure vital signs).
(d) Explain the different types of surgeries (i.e., elective, urgent, emergency) and their purposes (i.e., diagnostic, reconstructive, curative).
(e) Describe the supportive care provider’s role in supporting psychological care in acute care settings (e.g., listen to the patient about their fears, refer questions about the surgery to the nurse).
(f) Explore the steps and procedures involved in the pre-operative and postoperative periods.
