Outcome
Recognize the importance of personal hygiene in health care environments.
Indicators
(a) | Explain the importance of personal hygiene for patients and care providers in health care environments. |
(b) | Examine daily care routines including morning care, afternoon care and evening care. |
(c) | Discuss how to assist with personal hygiene while considering the patient’s dignity, independence, individualized care, preferences, privacy and safety. |
(d) | Describe oral hygiene and the observations to report to the care team. |
(e) | Examine ways to support good oral health. |
(f) | Explore the labelling process for personal items (e.g., clothing, glasses, blankets, dentures) in health care environments. |
(g) | Describe the guidelines for bathing (e.g., collect all needed items before the bath, provide for privacy, protect from burns and scalds). |
(h) | Describe compassionate caring for the patient receiving assistance with bathing. |
(i) | Identify the safety precautions for patients taking tub baths or showers. |
(j) | Examine safe practices for caregivers providing personal hygiene services. |
