Module 58: Infection Prevention (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate infection prevention strategies.
Indicators
(a) | Identify the signs and symptoms of infection (e.g., fever and chills, nausea, rash). |
(b) | Examine ways in which microbes are transmitted (e.g., the chain of infection) and steps to limit transmission. |
(c) | Discuss risk factors for infection (e.g., stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep). |
(d) | Identify routine immunizations for infection prevention. |
(e) | Demonstrate proper handwashing, cleaning and disinfection techniques. |
(f) | Demonstrate donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (e.g., masks, gloves, gowns). |
(g) | Investigate the risks to supportive care providers and patients when infection control is not adhered to (e.g., spread of disease to a more compromised population). |
(h) | Research disease outbreaks including pandemic and epidemic diseases that have had significant effects on the general population past and present. |
(i) | Describe the role and responsibilities supportive care providers in preventing the spread of infection. |
