Examine the supportive care provider’s role in meal planning and feeding patients.
Indicators
(a) | Explain the role of the supportive care provider in meal planning and preparation (e.g., planning menus, grocery shopping, supporting special cultural dietary practices). |
(b) | Describe how to create a pleasant patient-centered dining environment. |
(c) | Investigate special eating utensils available for patients with motricity issues (e.g., curved forks, special grips, plate guards). |
(d) | Explain how to feed patients, including patients who may have chewing difficulties, swallowing difficulty, vision impairments. |
(e) | Demonstrate feeding another person (e.g., ask them what they prefer to eat, what they would like to eat first and when they want to drink). |
(f) | Explain the supportive care provider’s role in assisting with intravenous therapy. |
(g) | Plan a meal for a fictional patient with specific nutritional or cultural requirements. |
