Produce, with guidance, a variety of simple oral Dakota texts on familiar topics, to express ideas, extend knowledge of the world, achieve objectives and for enjoyment.
Indicators for this outcome
(a)

Produce simple oral Dakota texts related to big ideas such as:

  • Dakota communities in Saskatchewan;
  • traditional stories; and,
  • kinship.
(b)

Share introductory information and ask others to introduce themselves, including information such as:

  • where they are from;
  • who is in their family;
  • where they live;
  • where they were born;
  • where they grew up; and,
  • where they go to school.
(c) Respond appropriately to other speakers during structured conversations or discussions, such as asking how someone is doing or what they did yesterday.
(d) Pose and respond to questions to generate conversations on familiar topics such as personal strengths, kinship and community.
(e) Express feelings and emotions using simple vocabulary, facial expressions and body language.
(f) Convey opinions or personal perspectives on a given topic such as gifts of the land.
(g) Employ simple sentences to provide basic single or two-step instructions in situations such as giving directions to a location.
(h) Express information about time, time of day (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening and night), seasons, days of the week, months and year.
(i) Convey which animal and value is associated with each month (e.g., January is horse and endurance).
(j) Share short descriptions of personal lived experiences on the land.
(k) Use Dakota for entertainment and personal enjoyment (e.g., sing songs and play games).
