(a) Explain how personal understanding of a culture might be enhanced through language learning.
(b) Explore initiatives that support the revitalization of Dakota communities, culture and language.
(c) Reflect on personal linguistic and cultural identity.
(d) Explore opportunities to further personal language learning (e.g., University of Minnesota, University of Victoria and First Nations University of Canada).

Develop and implement a personal plan to advocate for Dakota language revitalization, such as:

  • writing children’s books;
  • finding opportunities to use the language in the community (e.g., at work and public events);
  • translating signs in the community;
  • singing in Dakota;
  • volunteering in elementary Dakota classrooms; and,
  • teaching family members Dakota language skills.
