Outcome
Investigate food inspection and food safety certification processes.
Indicators
(a) Investigate the role of health inspectors and what they look for in food preparation areas.
(b)

Discuss the roles of the following food inspection agencies:

  • Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA);
  • Canadian Food and Drug Act (FDA);
  • Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA); and,
  • Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
(c) Investigate criteria and knowledge required to achieve FoodSafe Level 1 certification.
(d) Demonstrate how to prepare recipes using proper food safe practices (e.g., frequent hand washing, avoiding food cross-contamination, washing produce, cooking to proper food temperatures).
