Outcome
Investigate foods eaten around the world.
Indicators
(a) Discuss foods eaten in other countries.
(b) Research unique cooking methods (e.g., open fire, outdoor oven, underground) and equipment (e.g., tamale steamer, bamboo skimmer, tandoori oven) of various countries.
(c) Examine reasons (e.g., accessibility, availability, nutrition value, cost, ease of storage) why some foods in various cultures are considered staple foods.
(d)

Investigate foods from a variety of cultures found in the local community considering elements such as:

  • cooking methods;
  • nutritive value;
  • ingredients;
  • preparation time; and,
  • how it fits into Canada’s Food Guide.
(e) Explore Canadian adaptations to a variety of international dishes.
(f) Prepare or describe the process of preparing a variety of recipes from other cultures.
(g) Invite a community member to discuss foods and related stories that are unique to their culture.
